Regulation of reflective use in Colombia

Regulation of reflective use in Colombia

  • Article 94 of Law 769 of 2002, of the National Traffic Code, regulates the use of reflective identification vests or jackets for drivers and companions of bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, motorcycles and motorcycle tricycles, which must be visible when driving between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. the next day and whenever visibility is poor. For its part, article 96 of the specific rule for motorcyclists indicates in paragraph 4 that the driver of this type of vehicle must always wear a reflected vest identified with the number of the license plate of the vehicle in which it transits.
The Law is mandatory for both nationals and foreigners residing in Colombia, the two aforementioned regulations oblige the permanent use of this garment to the drivers of the aforementioned vehicles. Regarding the color of the vest, there is currently no standard that regulates the use, color and characteristics of the vest for motorcyclists and cyclists at the national level.
